Only 37 percent of small businesses cited logistics as the biggest barrier to entry in a tight supply chain market, with networking infrastructure coming in second with 20 percent, according to a new survey from Manta, a San Francisco-based cloud technology provider. Distribution infrastructure took third place at 20 percent, followed by customer and payroll systems at 14 percent, Manta says.

But network infrastructure is not a trivial issue, especially for smaller businesses. Manta’s research indicates that 39 percent of businesses are having to rely on their personal connections to try to land a reliable carrier, while only 21 percent of businesses believe they have good network infrastructure. Network infrastructure is growing more critical as business networks expand to serve.
